Trends are ever changing in every part of our lives, and our homes are definitely part of that! It seems like just when you catch up and have your house decorated juuuuust right everything changes. Remember when everyone was changing all their hardware and appliances to stainless steel? Yah…. sorry…. that’s out.
So what’s “in”??
1. High impact colours and patterns. This has been absolutely everywhere for the past year, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. This can be worked into almost any part of your home - walls, floors, ceilings, artwork, fabrics, you name it we can find a beautiful pattern or colour for it! You have probably seen some amazing wallpapers or tiles that fit with this trend in magazines or browsing on Pinterest.
2. White and two tone cabinets. While people are getting bolder with their tile choices, they are getting more reserved with the cabinet finishes. This is also a great way to make sure that your design lasts more than a couple of years. It’s always easier to change out your backsplash in 5 years than to repaint all of your cabinets. Combining more than one finish is a great way to break up a wall of cabinetry. The most common combo you will see is a dark colour on the base cabinets (or island) and white cabinets on the top; this maintains the feeling of a bright, white, airy space but you don’t get blinded by all the white cabinets.
3. Mixed metals. You definitely don’t need to match all of your metals throughout your house anymore! Which is such a great feeling since every company has slightly different versions of brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze. Now it’s considered stylish to have two or three different metals in a space. Right now I am planning a basement bar that has chrome faucets and cabinet knobs, with black steel lights, and I’m sure I will find something else to bring in with the accessorizing! It breaks up the monotony of the space and really makes certain items a feature.
4. Marble! Marble is always in style, it is truly a timeless finish. Marble is stunning for tiles, countertops, fireplace faces, accessories, and anything else you can think of! And now it doesn’t even matter if it is real marble, there are beautiful quartz and porcelain products out that do an amazing job imitating marble and they come with much less maintenance (and a much smaller price tag!).
